25yrs experience in visual communications, his design career starts as a publications designer in 1985. Nine magazines [ MAGNA mens fashion : Washington Theatre Guide : Operations Forum : WPCF Journal : Waste Age : Waste Alternatives : Public Power : Electrical Contractor : Revista Portal ] and numerous awards [ gold & silver awards, Society of Publication Designers ] later, hdmdesigns expanded services to include multimedia/interactive and online projects.
In 1990 he founded hdmdesigns (hdmdesigns.com), a visual communications firm in Alexandria VA. As creative director for hdmdesigns, his web development projects include: WashingtonPost.com, Idea-tv.com, ImaginationSoftware.com, StudentNet.com, Goodwill Industries (dcgoodwill.com), National Coalition for the Homeless (nch.ari.net) and National Welfare and Monitoring Advocacy Partnership (nwmap.org). He served as a consulting art director/illustrator at America Online (design/development), consulting creative director, for POWER magazine (Regardies publication), and consulting art director, for Black Entertainment Television on their MediaKit 2000.
As a qualified expert in graphic design/imaging applications, he taught design/multimedia at the Corcoran College of Art in Washington DC and has served as an instructor/trainer for such companies as AT&T, MCI, and PBS. In 1998, 1999 and again in 2000, he was selected as a judge for the Web Marketing Association Web Awards, an honor which rewards his years in the visual communications trade.
In early 2000 he relocated to Puerto Rico to serve as creative director for VERnet, an educational software development start-up company. In 2001, VERnet was recognized as "most innovative technology company", and the "Valores Para La Vida" cdrom product [creative direction/design/development], was awarded "best new software design" by the Asociación Productos de Puerto Rico. He also served as chief web officer (CWO) & creative director at ICENetworks.com, designing and producing various products and websites to include: santanderchannel.com, laurahernandez.com, ajili-mojili, the galleryinn.com; advertising info sites for Bacardi and Snapple; ICEN products such as the ICEchannel, ICEpacks (ICEpx) and ICEtalk; joint internet access ventures with Amigo supermarkets and Casa de Los Tapes as well as the ICENetworks corporate website, branding & marketing strategies and print collateral.
With the renaming of his founded company to 'hdm design partners', herman establishes partnerships [ePortal enterprises] to introduce e-revistaportal.com, the ONLY online magazine about technology, internet and digital happenings in Puerto Rico. the partnership also establishes 'Verdeluz.com', a website dedicated to the sales and marketing of Puertorican technology product. In November 2001, herman helps found and establish the Internet Society of Puerto Rico and is an active participant as head of the web development committee and designer/developer of the ISOCPR.org web presence. hdm design partners is also a member of the Technology Business Exchange of Puerto Rico and an accepted/listed member of DigitalThread, The Firm List, Creative Latitude, Visual Designer, Design Index and D3 [designers developers directory].
